If you were to look at the recent news bulletins and news feeds one would hear the word “bullying” come to the public consciousness time and time again. As one can see over social media bullying occurs not only in our schools, but the work place, online and in the community. There are different versions of bullying such as, physical bullying, verbal bullying, relational aggression bullying, sexual bullying and prejudicial bullying. We know that bullying is rampant in our society. So, the next question I need to ask is, “How are bullies created?” or “What makes a bully?” In my experience as an MFTI and a Probation Officer I have encountered thousands clients who have bullied others and have experienced being bullied themselves. In regards to “The Needs Based Method” always remember a person does not do anything in life unless a desired “need” is being met in the moment, be the behavior life-affirming or life-diminishing. So, one needs to ask oneself what need is being met when one person chooses not to meet the need of (respect, consideration, and acceptance) of another person by “bullying. ‘ Where does that behavior come from? Why is it important to diminish the moment of another individual? This is a topic I address on my book titled When Nobody’s Home
These are questions I will be answering and the solutions as to how to handle the mentality of a bully.
